Akbar's Own Dining Lounge Restaurant Review: Well-executed dishes, professional service and modest prices are trademarks of this popular destination for Indian food. Named for Mughal emperor Akbar the Great, Akbar's Own Dining Lounge turns out authentic Kashmiri and Mughlai dishes with delicately balanced spices and flavors, paired with puffy breads. Shrimp pakoras are wrapped in a crunchy sesame seed batter and lightly fried, sizzling with ginger and green chilies. Particularly tasty are the fiery prawn vindaloo or the more subtle prawn Kashmiri, simmered with butter, tomatoes, apples and cream. The tandoor oven produces specialties such as fish and chicken tikka, all of which are included in Akbar's mixed grill. Biryanis, heady with saffron, offer choices of chicken, lamb, prawns or vegetables. Vegetarians will be satisfied with the pea pulao and the alu gobi, chopped cauliflower and potatoes. A thoughtful wine list offers a wide-ranging selection of local and international reds and whites, plus plenty of beers. Desserts include mango ice cream or cheesecake and gulab jamun (deep-fried pastry balls with syrup).
