THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Akrim's Steakhouse Restaurant Review:
The all-mahogany interior, fireplaces and warm tones of maroon and green seem appropriate for the only restaurant in Western Michigan serving Piedmontese beef (low in fat, cholesterol and hormone-free). Appetizers include a smoked salmon and potato fritter, deep-fried and served with mustard cream and grilled portobello mushrooms. Choose from baked French onion soup or soup du jour; salads fall in line with Caesar, Cobb and Greek. Then theres the beef: Piedmontese porterhouse, certified black Angus New York strip and Piedmontese filet mignon among others. These are served with a choice of one side dish, Akrams salad and house-baked bread. Its recommended that the steaks be cooked to medium or below and a temperature/doneness range is printed on the menu so there are no misunderstandings. For non-beef-lovers, there are a few chicken (coated with hazelnut breading and sautéed with dried figs served with a hazelnut cream sauce) and fish (broiled salmon with lemon-dill cream sauce) options. Or opt for pasta: seafood pasta with scallops, shrimp and crab meat sautéed with garlic and shallots among them.
