| If you're looking for a hot meal, this isn't the place---Alive! specializes in raw cuisine, which means that nothing is cooked above 115 degrees. Proponents believe this preserves enzymes and maintains nutritional value, and the Raw Diet has caught on, especially in health-conscious Hollywood. The food is vegan, and wheat- and gluten-free, and utilizes organic produce. Everything is cut when you order it so be prepared to wait. But if you relax in the lovely Zen garden, you will be rewarded with tasty dishes like zucchini hummus that is so good we don't miss the beans. We also enjoy the avocado pizza crisp and miso-yam soup made with seaweed, fresh vegetables and the Chinese herb astragulus, thought to enhance the immune system. The chocolate cheesecake isn't as good as the real deal, but it's a lot better for your waistline. Alive! also has a nice selection of white, green and black loose leaf teas, including smoky white peony and sweet jasmine pearl. |
