Amrheins Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Boasting the “oldest hand-carved bar in America,” which remains the centerpiece of the restaurant and prominently displays Boston’s first draft beer pump, Amrheins has been a favorite of Southie’s old-time politicos since it first opened its doors in 1890. Try a beer cocktail like the Fire-Cider (Fireball and cider) or a glass of red wine to start. Food-wise you can still find shepherd’s pie and other items that hearken back to the days of old Ireland, as well as modern favorites including Sriracha chicken wings and a Delmonico steak. Local fare is a focus with an eye on fresh-caught seafood --- think Parmesan haddock, Maine lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and crab-stuffed baked haddock. For a sweet ending, we like the Boston cream pie and the cookie pot pie (a puff pastry filled with chocolate chip cookies, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream).
