Ananda Restaurant Review

: Ananda goes one step further than most of its Indian restaurant rivals: it uses locally sourced organic and farm-raised ingredients. The net result --- besides having a topnotch kitchen crew --- is a panoply of dishes that are striking in their flavors and design. Situated in an elegantly formal space with courteous staff ready to greet and seat guests (outdoors, in the lounge or by a fireplace), Ananda offers a compact menu of basically traditional fare, except for the contemporary American-style salads with arugula or avocado and roasted corn. To start, consider the kulu kofta, or spring lamb with diced Vidalia onions braised in olive oil, and the Kerala cake of lump crab and sweet local silver queen corn. As for entrées, everything tempts, and deciding between the lamb vindaloo (elsewhere, blazingly hot) and the chicken korma with pieces simmered in an almond-enhanced sauce could result in ordering both. As for breads, the goat cheese and cilantro naan and the Kashmiri naan, stuffed with dried fruits and nuts, are definitely must-orders. Desserts are a real treat, including the traditional rice pudding and rich gulab jamun. Ask about the wines and beers, and check out non-alcoholic drinks. If you enjoy weekend brunches, come to the brunch buffet.
