| Replacing The Mark, which also starred chef Alison Swope as does this restaurant, Andale is a vibrantly Mexican-style restaurant that launches Swope on a whole new facet of her culinary career. Or, is she just returning to the beloved flavors she has whipped up for us at other DC restaurants? Either way, Swope has interpreted and introduced a full range of beloved Mexican dishes: we adored the dinnertime carnitas, moist cubes of pork exuding wonderful, earthy flavors, and found the starter queso fundido with chorizo to be sinfully rich and flavorful. The menu reads like a travel log through some of the most enticing and exotic parts of Mexico, which means youll enjoy some of the best of Mexican cooking without the bother of traveling. It is also so comprehensive that you may want to return time and again to savor everything on hand. Youll also find plenty of tequilas---about 35 in all---and feel cheered by the bright colors and pretty south-of-the-border décor. |
