Andre's Restaurant Restaurant Review: Good Cuban restaurants are few and far between in San Diego, but Andre’s has been serving Caribbean-style fried plantains, ropa vieja, picadillo, and black beans and rice for more than 25 years. Located in an industrial district, Andre’s success lies in its authentic food and colorful setting. Portions are large, prices are low and service comes with a smile. Patrons enjoy dishes like rice and squid with garlic and green peppers, chunky beef stew, or Caribbean-style roast pork with rice and the famous black beans, and, of course, the classic Cuban grilled sandwich stuffed with roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard and Swiss cheese. This eatery also shines in Puerto Rican cuisine like plantain fritters with pork. End the evening with Andrés famous flan --- a caramel custard treat.
