Andres Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Good Cuban restaurants are few and far between in San Diego, but Andrés has been serving Caribbean-style fried plantains, ropa vieja and picadillo, to name a few dishes, for more than 30 years. Located in an industrial district, Andrés’ success lies in its authentic food and colorful setting. Portions are large, prices are low, and service comes with a smile. Consider the rice and squid with garlic and green peppers, chunky beef stew, or Caribbean-style roast pork with rice and the famous black beans and, of course, the classic Cuban grilled sandwich stuffed with roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard and Swiss cheese. This eatery also offers Puerto Rican cuisine such as plantain fritters with pork. End the evening with Andrés’ famous flan. On Sundays only, patrons may order mofongo (green fried plantain mash with crackling pork).
