| As the plaque on the outside wall says, when the restaurant opened in 1945, the Lakeview area around Belmont Avenue was largely Scandinavian. Ann Sather's is the only remnant of that ethnic neighborhood. Sather's is still one of the most popular weekend breakfast spots around. In addition to good eggs and omelets, there are feather-light Swedish pancakes with tart-sweet lingonberry sauce, french toast served with peach compote, waffles and the homemade baked goods Sather's is known for: melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls, biscuits, muffins, Swedish limpa and various pastries and breads of the day. Swedish standards with American touches make up the lunch and dinner menu. This place has been a favorite of ours for many years. |
