Chef-owner Ruggero Gadaldi has developed a real neighborhood treasure and the full dining room proves it. The casually sophisticated space with huge windows looking out on busy Polk Street has cream-colored walls with a simple line of rustic, hand-painted Italian-style plates ringing the room just above the dark wood wainscoting. One brilliant starter is the sliced fennel with blood oranges and red onions. Main courses change frequently, but if they're available, try the braised veal short ribs, the bigoli, a spelt-wheat spaghetti with a wild boar sauce bolognese, or the halibut with grilled zucchini and cherry tomatoes. The wine list is more than adequate, with fair prices and a good selection.
