Applebee's is well-known for being family-friendly with its easy-to-eat menu items like massive salads, burgers, chicken entrées and the barbecued riblets basket served with a generous helping of crispy fries. It also has a low-fat menu that even includes a brownie sundae. Despite this being a chain restaurant, there's a homey appeal about Applebee's. It likely has to do with the décor: scads of pop culture artifacts adorn the walls and the restaurant pays homage to nearby high schools' sports teams and to other hometown heroes. The sizeable pub-style bar offers plenty for the grown-ups, including a line of signature drinks with such names as Bahama Mama and Mud Slide.
