| Avenue C continues to work at becoming the next fun restaurant row in the East Village, with Arcane filling the void left by the closure of Bao 111. Overseen by a charming France-born, Guadeloupe-raised brother-and-sister team with a group of talented Caribbean cooks, Arcane dishes up French-Caribbean cuisine in a cozy, friendly room with an uptempo island vibe. A richly flavored conch stew transports diners to Turks and Caicos while the christophine gratin adds a French touch to the Latin American vegetable. Meats and seafood are cooked a la plancha and simply seasoned. A beautifully presented salad of bok choy with pea shoots and a sesame drizzle is a definite must. In addition to a wine list reflecting the multi-continent orientation of the restaurant, Arcane offers a selection of aged island rums. |
