Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
Sophisticated yet welcoming, Ardeo is the consummate end-game restaurant for busy Washingtonians who want to kick back and relax in style. With speedy and confident service, a sassy wine list, and a menu that dares to focus on American greats in an artful and understated way, Ardeo sums up all that is cool and trendy about neighborhood restaurants without overstepping the price and dress code boundaries that can make DC dining so, well, pretentious. Although clearly a seasonal gathering of appetizer and entrée fare, you might be lucky enough to find the chef’s watercress starter garnished with a “fallen” Gorgonzola soufflé, a mere mouthful of salty goodness. If you spy the Atlantic salmon, be sure to net this offering, with its nicely crusted skin and silken flesh. Listen to the specials of the day, but you may be lured by the herb-crusted lamb loin. On the other hand, if your mood dictates casual, check out the Ardeo hamburger spiced with chili and accompanied by avocado, Jack cheese and bacon. Save room for the chocolate hazelnut caramel bar with a chocolate milkshake, or other sweet temptations. If you arrive late or want to stay on, slip next door to its partner, Bardeo, for drinks and small dishes. And on Sunday, check out Ardeo’s brunch menu, where you’ll find standard scrambled eggs but also such dishes as pumpkin challah french toast and shrimp and grits. |
