THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Arepa Mia Restaurant Review:
The "arepa" is a corn-flour flatbread filled with meat and vegetables or cheese, and it may be viewed as a snack but is substantial enough to qualify for a lunch main dish. Lisbet Hernandez, from Caracas, demonstrates a well-practiced hand at making these local treats at her two Arepa Mia locations. The Decatur outpost has red walls and iconic decorative elements and is able to serve beer and wine. Start with a cup of the black bean soup. We also like the cachapas, a flat corn pancake finished with a variety of toppings, perhaps 12-hour-roasted local pork (pernil) and queso guayanés, a crumbly mild cheese similar to Mexican queso fresco. Similar ingredients also fill empanadas, which come two per serving. Desserts will vary, but the green papaya with queso de año does the trick. Also located at Sweet Auburn Curb Market, 209 Edgewood Ave. SE, Atlanta, 404-880-8575.
