Assaggio Restaurant Review

: Beautifully painted murals line the walls, a reasonably priced authentic Italian menu is at the forefront, and it’s all located just steps from St. Leonard's Church and Peace Garden. Begin with the hot Italian cherry peppers stuffed with provolone and prosciutto. For larger groups, don't miss the bountiful platter of antipasto filled with every Italian cold cut imaginable, an assortment of cheeses and olives, roasted red peppers and even artichokes. Pair it with a bottle of wine from France, California, Australia, Spain or, of course, Italy. For an entrée, consider the three-mushroom risotto made with shiitake, porcini and button mushrooms. The plentiful shrimp and scallops fra diavolo was one of the best we have had in the North End; we also recommend the lightly breaded veal piccata, sautéed with white wine, lemon and capers. For dessert, share the creamy tiramisu over a cup of cappuccino.
