| Athens is one of those places you feel like you’ve been before, even if it is a first visit. Shouts of "opa!," flaming saganaki, friendly servers and jovial diners set the scene for a fun and welcoming meal. A setting that includes a painted mural of docked fishing boats and low lamps over clothed tables, plus a menu with multiple seafood choices---even in landlocked Indiana---hints that this surprising oasis in a sleepy shopping center strip may be a true find. What the restaurant lacks in space, the menu makes up for in diversity, from whole red snapper to sautéed squid, a fresh catch of the day, braised lamb shanks and rack of lamb. The classics---gyros, moussaka, spanakopita and lemony baked half chicken---come with lemon-roasted potatoes, green beans simmered in tomato juice and warm pita slices. The atmosphere is so inviting, you’ll be tempted to kiss the host---on both cheeks---when leaving. |
