THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Atkins Park Tavern Restaurant Review: Established in 1922, the original Atkins Park in Virginia Highland occupies a site that has been in continuous operation as a tavern ever since. Today, it has expanded beyond the city's historic neighborhood to include suburban units. The architecture is contemporary mountain cabin in feeling, with plenty of wood and windows. Burgers are first-rate, and if you want yours rare, it comes rare. A turkey burger is the "good for you" option. But Atkins Park isn't just for pub grub. Pecan-crusted fried trout is beautifully sweet and flavorful, and comes atop whipped mashed potatoes, themselves almost worthy of their own plate. Fried chicken is another satisfying item, and there are lots of steak options. We look forward to an upgraded wine list; meanwhile, a good brew is a distinct possibility. |
