Autentica Restaurant Review: There’s always plenty on the menu at Oswaldo Bibiano’s Mexican restaurant, which boasts a casual dining room, terra cotta tiles, and a dramatic open kitchen. Bibiano cooked in some of Portland’s finest restaurants before opening his own place to showcase recipes from his native Guerrero, Mexico. Dinner dishes include tamales, tacos and enchiladas elevated with nuanced, complex spice profiles. The adventurous can try less traditional dishes, such as Idaho rainbow trout marinated with green chiles. Don’t miss the chicken in a mole sauce that’s made from 30 different ingredients, including nuts, anise, plantains, cinnamon, chiles and chocolate. In addition to beer there’s a brief wine list with selections chosen to complement the cuisine. Cocktails focus on creative signature margaritas, such as pomegranate or spicy pepper. In warm weather, hold out for a table on the attractive outdoor patio. Weekend brunches feature a variety of well-spiced huevos dishes and enchiladas. |
