| This is a real old-fashioned drugstore diner with sassy waitresses to boot. Most wear aprons with their names and the year they started and they don’t take any guff. The place is packed on the weekends with River Oaks regulars, some second generation, but you can usually squeeze in between some old-timers at the fountain counter. Burgers are a fave as are the huge servings of hand-cut fries and real milkshakes. Breakfast fare is heavy, from eggs every way to Texas-style biscuits smothered in gravy with hunks of sausage. And, of course, there’s Frito chili pie on the menu. Weight watchers can go with a big garden salad, but why bother? |
