 Avenue B chef Chris Bonfili and wife Jenn transformed a dingy corner diner into a warm, welcoming spot rife with urban---albeit clamorous---energy. The décor combines rustic charm with whimsy and minimalist chic. The seasonal menu lists three appetizers, three mains and three desserts, but choices expand with daily changing specials posted on large chalkboards. Bright twists buff comfort foods---Kobe meatloaf with goat cheese and chive-whipped potatoes; vegetarian roasted squash and mushroom potpie; and roasted pear and Gorgonzola flatbread. International influences and Bonfili’s love of Asian flavors punctuate several preparations. A dessert favorite is the chocolate caramel bar with pumpkin mousse. A BYOB with just a $5 corkage fee adds another enticement.
