THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Avenue Bistro Restaurant Review:

Chef-owner Scott Campbell’s bustling Avenue Bistro is a real neighborhood spot, price-friendly and serving three meals a day (breakfast is continental only). Many of the regulars---dating, parenting and retiring---come in a few times a week. Exposed brick, antique mirrors and creamy sconce lighting make for a romantic setting. Food is seasonal French-Americana bistro with an accent on fresh local ingredients and liberal use of fresh herbs. Prices are moderate, portions are large. Start with some plates for the table and include the excellent and rich Alsatian onion tartlet, a yummy blend of onion confit and Gruyère topped with moist house-cured gravlax and bright crimson salmon roe. An asparagus avocado and beet salad is sparked with a soy-lemon dressing. Flash-fried Blue Island oyster freshly harvested off Long Island, come with an Asian cucumber salad. For entrées, slice into the glistening chicken dish---stuffed with smoky lardons, soft goat cheese and crunchy walnuts in a red wine sauce. Campbell’s pinkly rare sliced tenderloin is perfect. Desserts are a must, especially the homemade silky ice cream. The boutique wine list---a bit pricey---has something for everyone. In a nod to the child-heavy neighborhood, Campbell offers freshly made organic baby food, at the table or to go.
