The forces behind The Broken Shaker (Sydell Group and Bar Lab) put their heads together to create this culinary-meets-cocktail experience at Freehand Miami. What that means is craft cocktails are taken to another level, though they’re still concocted with house-made bitters and herbs straight from the backyard garden. But most importantly, 27 Restaurant & Bar serves comestibles other than jerky and ribs. Tender and appetizing braised octopus tentacles are awash in an aji verde-spiked huancaina sauce; the morning's catch will swim in a delightfully piquant coconut-curry broth with farro and avocado. Choose from homemade arepas stuffed with ropa vieja, kimchi fried rice with a sunny side up egg, and shakshuka as well. The menu reads like a greatest hits soundtrack of Miami's melting pot of culture and cuisines, featuring ingredients from Colombia and Haiti to the Middle East and Peru. Oh, and you can also get a double cheeseburger with Miami Smokers bacon and Shaker sauce. Desserts are constantly on rotation but have included Key lime pie with coconut cream and pistachio crumble, fudge brownie with a cherry bourbon glaze, and peach crisp complemented by vanilla ice cream.
