50 Local Restaurant Review:

The big blackboard says it all: 50 Local features the farms, fisheries, dairies and artisan food producers in Southern Maine who bring their fresh food to the kitchen, before it lands at its ultimate destination on the guests’ table. The menu in this hip, contemporary setting changes often. Starters include everything from greens or seaweed salad to oysters, scallops and poutine or squash blossom fries, which can be paired with handcrafted cocktails at the sleek stainless steel bar. Next, choose from plenty of fresh seafood entrées, like pan-roasted cod, a blended fish stew, Arctic char, a butter-poached lobster or fish ‘n’ chips. Meat lovers are treated to chicken, sirloin or a more casual burger. And there are always options for vegetarians, such as lentil risotto and handmade pastas. True to the French influence here, try the beignets for dessert. Tuesdays are $2 Tapas Night, featuring a number of favorites in addition to the regular menu --- think fish tacos, oyster sliders or a seasonal bruschetta.
