Bandits' Grill & Bar Restaurant Review:

This historic spot just off the 101 Freeway used to be a stagecoach stop along El Camino Real. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken, tri-tip and ribs are slow-cooked and then finished over an oak-wood fire to give them a pink color inside and a nice char outside. On the tri-tip and chicken, you can choose your favorite seasoning. The pulled pork and brisket come swathed in a bit of sauce already. Any of these meats are available as a full dinner plate or can be sandwiched between two pieces of garlic toast (or on a steak roll). If all that food overwhelms you, opt for one of the many salads like the chicken Caesar, the Waldorf, or the salmon salad with Mandarin oranges and wonton noodles. The tri-tip nachos are fun and easy to eat. For those who have any room left, desserts are limited and decidedly simple. There’s old-fashioned cheesecake, chocolate cake and three flavors of ice cream --- you guessed it: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. There’s a limited but predictable selection of wine and beer. The original location is in nearby Thousand Oaks (589 N. Moorpark Rd., 805-497-7427).
