Benjamin Prime Restaurant Review:

Fans of Benjamin Steakhouse will like its bright cousin, Benjamin Prime. Updating the steakhouse concept with contemporary versions of beloved dishes, Benjamin Prime attracts a well-heeled business crowd as well as midtown shoppers. The bi-level restaurant includes an airy dining space plus private rooms with a wine collection on view. The menu features steakhouse faves, with many twists. Creamed spinach, a staple at every city steakhouse, has no cream here. Tuna tartare is part of a duet with salmon tartare, both jazzed up with citrus crème fraîche. Non-carnivores have salmon options and giant mushroom steaks or cauliflower. But it’s really the steak that resides “above the title.” Order a well-marbled rib-eye, sliced at your table, for a taste of what the Benjamin clan is known for. Lamb chops are equally masterful as is the commanding porterhouse for four. Meats are carefully aged on premise under the watchful eye of chef Arturo McLeod. Don’t miss the garlicky grilled oysters served with sun-dried tomatoes to start. “New classics” like the Midtown Mule (spiked with fresh basil) join Benjamin’s “already-classic” specialty cocktails. Ask for sommelier guidance to navigate the extensive wine list.
