Bluegold Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: Perched on the second floor of Huntington Beach’s sprawling Pacific City shopping and retail center, this sleek spot helmed by the L.A.-based restaurant group Blackhouse Hospitality (Little Sister, Abigaile) pops out amongst the overarching facility’s casual ambience. Its smart use of slightly dimmed lighting, streamlined earth tones and stacked stone columns hints at an Angelino vibe, but large bay windows overlooking the ocean help you remember you’re in Surf City.

Food & Drinks: The style is matched by chef Tin Vuong’s well-designed menu of contemporary offerings, a deft mix of approachable items and forward-thinking fare for the foodie set. We recommend trusting the kitchen’s skills and ordering the pork jowls and black rice with sweet soy and Tokyo turnip. Other starters like the uni risotto and the duo of roasted bone marrow and escargots are appropriately decadent; consider pairing them with a glass of wine or the drinkable voodoo being whipped up behind the bar. For mains, try the signature Vietnamese-style strip steak or the roasted wild salmon with grilled artichoke barigoule, shelling beans and spinach cream. Desserts are highlighted by the dark chocolate pavé. Breakfast options ranging from classic omelets to advanced plates such as shakshouka are available until 3 p.m.
