THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Boxing Room Restaurant Review:

Boxing Room beckons with impossibly high ceilings and caramel colored fir walls. Beyond its modern fixtures and ambience are homey touches such as a large blackboard listing a selection of beer, oysters on the half shell and daily specials. Owned by the Absinthe Group (Absinthe Brasserie & Bar, Arlequin, Comstock Saloon), the restaurant is an homage to New Orleans and southern Louisiana cooking. Expect a carefully curated ingredient list and quality local produce. You could easily fill up on the selection of raw and charbroiled oysters, hushpuppies and deep-fried alligator with rémoulade. But if you brought your appetite, go big. There’s gumbo, etouffée and smothered okra with Gulf shrimp. Try a seafood po’ boy (catfish, shrimp or oyster) with house-made tartar sauce, or fried chicken that arrives piled on buttermilk mashed potatoes with gravy. The adventurous can try the "Taste of the Swamp": turtle soup, alligator piquant sauce and fried frogs’ legs. This food begs for beer, but wine is available on tap or by the carafe, pitcher or bottle, and a notable cocktail menu takes the New Orleans theme a festive step further. Dessert offerings lean Southern and a bit heavy, but you can’t go wrong with a scoop of bourbon ice cream.
