THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bunk Sandwiches Restaurant Review:

Bunk takes its name from William "Bunk" Moreland on the TV show "The Wire." Once a trendsetter, Bunk Sandwiches is now an established presence, with five locations throughout the city as well as moveable food trucks. This, its original outpost, is on Portland's rapidly gentrifying Central Eastside. Co-owner Tommy Habetz, a veteran of many fine Portland restaurants, pioneered the hefty, full-flavored sandwich versions that are now de rigueur throughout the city. Bunk's strongest suit is the simpler, meat-centric sandwiches. Patrons can't get enough of the albacore tuna melt, a salty delight, and the meatball-Parmigiana combo. But without a doubt, the most popular sandwich is the fat-laden Cubano stuffed with slivers of roasted pork belly. Vegetarians aren't neglected, however, and will savor the daily seasonal special, such as roasted butternut squash with caramelized onions, Gruyère and leafy green arugula, but in general the vegetable kingdom is not the main attraction here.
