Carlo & Johnny Restaurant Review:

In Cincinnati, there's such a thing as a "Jeff Ruby dining experience." Ruby has built a brand of steakhouses, and this one has all of his trademarks. Carlo & Johnny serves creative cuisine in plush, country club-like surroundings. Steeped in history and adorned with antiques --- including doorknobs from Al Capone’s winter home --- the building was once a private mansion, nightclub, speakeasy and illegal gambling joint. Legend goes that entertainer Kitty Kallen was singing “Mule Train” in December 1949 when the casino was raided. The restaurant is named in memory of the two cops who had a hand in the infamous raid. Each of the separate dining rooms has a distinct feel. Meanwhile, the menu features Prime steaks, and there’s a vibrant bar scene and a raw bar with oysters, king crab and lobster. Sides to share range from truffled creamed sweet corn to baked macaroni and cheese. Desserts showcase a homemade ice cream sampler. There are three wine cellars. Live music rounds out the experience.
