Cedars, from the same family behind Fez and Byblos, offers authentic Middle Eastern food and a warm and sincere welcome. Twinkling brass fixtures light this pleasant South Street spot. A favored appetizer is a mixed platter of hummus, tzatziki, taramosalata, dolmates, octopus, feta and olives. If you are still hungry, there is moussaka, shwarma combinations, kebabs or falafel. Salads and vegetarian dishes are available, too, such as roasted eggplant or spanakorizo (spinach sautéed with saffron rice and topped with feta). Try the samke hara --- salmon baked with tahini, cumin, onion and pine nuts, with grilled potatoes. Sweet phyllo and nut pastries or chocolate mousse may be accompanied by Lebanese coffee.
