THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cellar 56 Restaurant Review:
Half-glass pours from Cellar 56’s varied by-the-glass wine list enables one to explore what is unfamiliar at a reasonable cost. However, reds are too warm to allow them to show at optimum levels. Small plates rule in this tapas-style dining environment. But we recommend keeping it simple with perhaps the cheese plate or a salad. While we liked what the kitchen produced when the place first opened, the execution today is far less interesting. Barbecue-stuffed egg rolls (four pieces to an order) were crispy, for sure, from being fried too long. A pair of New Zealand lamb chops sported a balsamic drizzle, but needed more seasoning and could do without the spinach leaves designed as a garnish. Krispy Kreme bread pudding for dessert remains firmly in place as a signature item. Waitstaff could be more knowledgeable about wines. On Monday nights, bottles of wine are half-price.
