THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Charlemagne Restaurant Review:

The location at the once-gritty intersection of Greenwich and Christopher Streets doesn’t elicit promise; neither does the name of the restaurant, which refers to the early medieval king. But take a bite of just about anything on the menu at this West Village bistro and you’ll quickly forget about any judgmental reservations you had when walking in the door. Start with the grilled, slightly charred octopus and chorizo, a nicely executed surf ‘n’ turf combo. Quail egg-topped steak tartare zings with mustard, and the tempura pepperoncini is thoughtfully complemented by lemon yogurt. Entrées include bucatini vongole, thick noodles wrapped around razor clams with a chili kick, and a first-rate rib-eye. Wines by the glass are available for pairing, or splurge on one of the well-priced bottles of Gallic vino.
