China Tang Restaurant Review:

Behind this luxurious, star-studded establishment is an equally fascinating persona --- the jet-setting entrepreneur Sir David Tang. In addition to China Tang, he also founded the China Club restaurants in Hong Kong, Beijing and Singapore, as well as the Shanghai Tang clothing company. Tang himself even chose the traditional and contemporary artwork that decorates the dining room, which also features mirrored pillars, wooden fretwork frames and upholstered banquettes around the walls. It's the perfect setting for the movers and shakers, trendsetters and celebrities who frequent the place. The menu has changed little over the years; you'll find a wide range of dim sum and Cantonese dishes like pork dumplings, spring rolls, and egg noodle with pork. For a real set piece, order the Peking duck served in three ways. The wine list is very good, and pricey, with many hard-to-find vintages. Guests can also choose to linger in the separate lounge at the entrance and sip something from the extensive selection of spirits and cocktails, such as the Monkey Gland, a 1920s-era libation made with gin, orange juice, absinthe and grenadine. It seems that every detail of a diner's experience has been considered --- there's even poetry read aloud from speakers in the washroom. Set lunch with a glass of wine £27.50.
