Coni'Seafood Restaurant Review:

Nayarit native Connie Cossio teamed with Sinaloa-born chef Sergio Penuelas in 2012 to serve Mexican seafood in Inglewood. They’d previously worked together at Mariscos Chentes in Mar Vista. A smooth coat stucco facade gives way to a dining room with grey walls, seafood-themed design flourishes, and a spacious back patio with a mural promising “mariscos estilo Nayarit.” Ceviche is popular to start, including aguachile starring head-on shrimp marinated in spicy salsa that blends jalapeño, lemon juice and lime juice. Chicharron de pescado makes the most of notoriously bland tilapia, sautéing skin-on chunks with soy sauce, garlic and lemon juice. Smoked marlin tacos, bolstered with molten Monterey Jack cheese, are griddled to good effect. Langoustines highlight larger dishes. Crustaceans are butterflied and doused in a potent sauce of red pepper, garlic and lemon juice. A sauce this satisfying warrants a mound of white rice for sopping’s sake. Coni’Seafood’s signature dish is undoubtedly pescado zarandeado, char-grilled snook that’s soaked in soy sauce, mayo and mystery spices. To construct, pile flaky fish with caramelized onions in warm corn tortillas. Dessert is absent, and drinks are limited to lemonade or soda.
