Crystal Jade Golden Palace Restaurant Review:

Enter this lofty split-level restaurant, tucked away on the fifth floor of the Paragon Shopping Mall, through a dimly lit catwalk, past the private rooms and a well-stocked wine cellar. The interior of the dining hall is elegant with gray-colored, textured walls, a timber ceiling and towering wooden columns. The cuisine is undisputedly Teochew, originating from Chaoshan in China, though Cantonese offerings are also available. Start with the signature Teochew cold lobster or crispy suckling pig, its skin sliced paper thin and served with Chinese-style pancakes while the remainder is chopped and fried to specifications. From the extensive shark’s fin menu, “braised superior” is a consommé-style dish with a sprinkling of bean sprouts, while the golden-hued “braised shark’s fin” comes with crab roe. From the poultry menu, we recommend the deep-fried chicken complemented by black truffles. Meat lovers will likewise enjoy the crispy chicken with mango and goose liver as well as the generous portion of fork-tender stewed beef short rib. Crystal Jade Golden Palace has an array of labels from major European wine regions. French wines dominate the menu, but new-world options are available, too. While not entirely exciting, the desserts are reliably good, perhaps a taro and yam bun.
