Daily Café offers diner fare in the best sense of the words: simple meals you could cook at home, but don't always want to. Everything is made from quality ingredients and prepared with care. The menu includes multitudes of healthful options, plus a few indulgent ones. Breakfast (served all day) offers choices such as brioche french toast; a hearty squash frittata with sage, onions and goat cheese; and a Bowery bagel topped with smoked salmon, capers, cucumbers, red onion and cream cheese. Lunch features an ample array of salads in big glass bowls: the tarragon chicken is a perennial favorite, as is the chopped salad with pickled cauliflower (optional added chicken). Roast vegetables with goat cheese and pesto make a vegetarian entrée. Heartier appetites will enjoy a beef brisket sandwich on ciabatta or match beer-battered cod with hand-cut fries. Three lunch specials change weekly, and offer a Vietnamese-style marinated roast pork sandwich on ciabatta with cucumber, Sriracha aïoli and romaine. Top off your meal with a cappuccino and one of the cookies or quick breads. There's a small choice of wines and beers. The bright, busy storefront welcomes Pearl District workers, shoppers and residents alike.
