THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED DejaVu Creole Soul Food & Vegetarian Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Set with only six tables, this Memphis eatery occupies a tiny former downtown church house. The walls are lined with autographed photos of celebrities that chef Gary Williams has cooked for throughout his career, and Mardi Gras-themed paraphernalia can be found all over the restaurant. Despite its size, the place packs them in at lunch. Though Southern-style cooking isn’t typically vegetarian-friendly, the menu at this modest "soul food" joint features both meat and vegan entrée options. To make both sides happy, all the side dishes --- red beans and rice, collard greens, smothered okra --- are free of meat and animal by-products. Chef Williams dishes out such classic Cajun favorites as alligator stew, shrimp Creole and crawfish etouffée. Meatless mains include barbecued tofu, fried vegetable rolls, and a mock chicken salad sandwich that could fool any omnivore. Many of the desserts, including a rich chocolate cake with strawberry sauce, are vegan. No alcohol. Also located at 51 S. Main St. (Union Ave.), 901-505-0212.
