Dish Restaurant Review:

Thrift store art intermingles with award plaques along the walls at Dish, creating a homey atmosphere. From the menu, choose such starters as fried green tomatoes, homemade pimento cheese, deviled eggs, collards dip, roasted garlic and red pepper hummus, and biscuits and gravy. The signature chicken and dumplings relies on a butter-basted roasted bird and handmade dough yielding tender dumplings. Favorite entrées include the Cajun meatloaf, the pot roast and the fresh salmon patties served with house-made orange honey butter. Sandwich options include Eastern Carolina-style pork barbecue and the bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato version of the BLT. Vegetarian dishes are legion; expect “soysage” and biscuits at Saturday breakfast. Be sure to save room for the vanilla bourbon sweet potato pie; we also suggest the chocolate pecan and Key lime pies. The short wine list deals largely in inexpensive quaffs, while Charlotte’s own Olde Mecklenburg Copper highlights a well-chosen number of draught brews.
