THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Donostia Restaurant Review:

In Spain’s Basque country, tapas are called pintxos, and Donostia --- the sister restaurant of nearby Enoteca La Storia --- brings these small plates to Los Gatos. Donostia is the Basque name for the seaside city of San Sebastián, chef Agustin Elbert’s hometown. A blue agate slab behind the bar recalls the sea, but the menu extends beyond seafood. Cold pintxos include the Indurain, a skewer of tuna, anchovy, guindilla pepper and olive that’s meant to be eaten all at once for a spicy-salty punch; and the nicely presented boquerones (white anchovies) with pimientos and hard-boiled egg. On the hot menu, croquetas de bacalao (salt cod) are expertly fried, and the huevos con piperrada are like a dream breakfast: a fried egg over potatoes and a smoky-sweet concoction of onions, peppers and tomatoes. On the list of “especiales,” try the tender beef cheeks. Donostia also offers platters of cured meats, including the famed jamón Ibérico. For dessert, torrija is a bread pudding with cinnamon and ice cream. The wine list is all Spanish, with many choices by the glass.
