Bright and cheerful with a substantial view of the street, Dulce Vegan Bakery & Cafe is a slim slip of a space lined along one wall with tables and bench seating. A few deep purple-blue stools invite eating at a counter area. We were delighted and surprised by the "cheese" soup prepared by co-owner/chef Howell Belser; the soup is made with Daiya brand vegan cheese, which she finds melts better than many others. Crushed cashews add texture as well as flavor. Try the chia seed-flecked pudding, too, a light but filling study in how to make good-for-you fare tasty. Studded with house-made granola, it's not just for breakfast. French press coffee is from local roaster Dancing Goats. The enterprise also produces wedding cakes, and very tasty breakfast rolls. Closes for winter break between Christmas and a day or two after New Year's Day.
