EMC Seafood & Raw Bar Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: As trendy goes, the sleek, glass-walled EMC hits L.A.’s seafood/raw bar zeitgeist full-on, and easily holds its own among the best of them. It’s not a Korean joint, though it’s nestled like a pearl in K-town’s City Center mall. A hopping crowd mixes up gastronauts and evening club-goers.

Food & Drinks: The nightly happy hour (Sun.-Thurs. 10 p.m.-closing, Fri.-Sat. 11 p.m.-closing) features raw oysters for $1.50 a pop --- fresh, sweet and briny, they’re a bargain. The raw bar here boasts fresh uni, oyster shooters, octopus carpaccio and more. One could be perfectly content with a raw dinner, but that would mean missing out on the lobster roll, presented on toasted brioche with tarragon butter. Crab cakes with fennel salad are light as a cloud. Uni pasta is nicely turned out but rather uninspired. Aromatic mussels arrive steaming in white wine, lemon grass and fresh thyme, and don’t miss the crispy soft shell crab. Aside from seafood, you’ll find garlic noodles, rack of lamb and black pepper filet mignon. Desserts include crème brûlée in green tea, vanilla or cappuccino flavors. Cocktails rival those of any high-end mixology bar in town, while a short, boutique wine list offers well-suited choices for seafood. Other locations.
