Gilbert Scott Restaurant Review:

This is one of London’s distinguished interiors in the former Coffee Room at the renovated St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel in King’s Cross. It’s all marble columns, lofty spaces, big windows and lots of gilt, taken back to its former glory of Victorian architect George Gilbert Scott. Happily, Marcus Wareing has gone the casual, British route with a menu of classics. Opt for pigeon and pistachio terrine, rare roast beef salad or crispy pigs head with gribiche and endive to start. Then it’s on to the likes of herbed gnocchi with braised leeks, hedgehog mushrooms, hazelnuts and Coolea cheese; poached hake with grilled squid, flower sprouts and Romesco; or chargrilled saddleback pork chop with courgette, fennel and mustard sauce for mains. Desserts include Yorkshire rhubarb semifreddo with Amaretti crumble, and prune and Armagnac tart with clotted cream. There’s a bar at the entrance on the terrace; weekend brunch is rightly popular with a resident pianist; a weekend roast is offered as well; and you can take afternoon tea in the bar. Weekly set lunch and pre-theater menu £29 for 3 courses; weekend 3-course roast lunch £33.
