Manhattan’s burger wars have a contender in Gina Americana. With only organic grass-fed beef as the base of this American staple, six-ounce burgers are served on brioche piled high with onion, lettuce, tomatoes and Gina sauce, a tasty blend of ketchup and mayonnaise. You can also choose trendier versions with the likes of avocado, turkey patties, French Roquefort cheese and sriracha mayo to mix and match. Or have a beef or bratwurst Gina hot dog with parsley and beet slaw, mustard sauce and pickles. There’s an extensive menu of designer sandwiches and salads to please everyone, non-meat and gluten-free eaters as well. Sides include onion hay, a stringy mess of fried raw onions, thin and salty just like the New England versions. Desserts are gelato concoctions, in shake form or with toppings. Wine and beer are available. The setting is glorified 50s coffee shop, with an Americana theme.
