Glowbal Restaurant Review:

After being shuttered for a move from Yaletown to downtown, Glowbal opened with a look-at-me façade. A dramatic undulating wood and glass awning, lit by waves of colored light, shelters a 150-seat patio. Inside, patrons can opt for buzzy bar seating or calm alcoves, or head upstairs where coveted tables ring the mezzanine. A custom robata grill plays homage to the original Glowbal and features satays like Wagyu beef, al pastor pork, wild mushroom, and tiger prawns with chorizo. Do order the robata platter with its select chef's choices. Another choice: Opt for tastes from the raw bar, perhaps a dozen pristine oysters, a selection of BC and German caviars, or ahi carpaccio. Must-try signature entrées? Bison short ribs in a rum-chimichurri sauce with mashed potatoes, and the miso-marinated sablefish in shiitake consommé with soba noodle salad. Steaks galore --- Canadian prime filet mignon, USDA prime striploin and Wagyu striploin --- will please meat lovers. Not to be missed are the truffled spaghetti and signature meatballs, plus lobster and burrata ravioli. Desserts such as chocolate crémeux with chocolate crumble, chocolate gelato and passion fruit coulis, and mango passion cheesecake with Mandarin sorbet create sweet endings. A globetrotting wine list covers all the bases, and there is an enviable lineup of large formats. Service is topnotch.
