THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gregoire Restaurant Review:

High-end takeout standout Gregoire's Oakland location is on a well-traveled corner of Piedmont Avenue, near Kaiser Permanente hospital; with so many hungry staffers nearby, chef-owner Gregoire Jacquet was wise to make his flavorful, lunchtime sandwiches an all-day affair. Layered with savory meats, vegetables, complementary cheeses and piquant sauces, sandwiches include options such as sliced leg of lamb with dill and cucumber salad on ciabatta, or chilled and marinated Catalan Farm zucchini with herbed goat cheese in grilled lavash. Prices are exceptionally reasonable, with most gourmet sandwiches under $10, and fresh soups and salads equally budget friendly. Dinner boxes are luxe meals made with grilled meats, seafood, fowl and sides, with prices upped a bit to match, but they are justified given the French technique and pedigreed seasonal ingredients (and not having to cook). Don't forget dessert --- or the eatery's famed potato puffs. Look for the original outpost in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto (2109 Cedar St., 510-883-1893).
