THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Hamasaku Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Toshi Kihara is back where it all started, at least for him. The former location of Ma Maison on Melrose, where Toshi got his first job after arriving from Japan, is the address of his newest restaurant. The place belongs solely to him and he has named it after his West Los Angeles flagship location. If you like sushi, sashimi and rolls, you will fall in love with them by the time you leave the restaurant. Of the 40 plus sushi options on the menu, we tasted twenty and found each exciting and exquisitely prepared. Although we could hardly choose a favorite roll, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Toshi replaces the traditional rice with more fish. Of course there is more on the menu besides sushi and you’ll find an assortment of tasty appetizers like creamy rock shrimp tempura and king crab cream coquettes as well as pasta dishes including spaghetti with shrimp, spinach, crispy giner, grated diakon and shimeji mushrooms. For larger portioned plates, try the codfish marinated saikyo miso and shrimp mousse tempura or the grilled beef tenderloin with wasabi mashed potatoes. Toshi has tastefully decorated the space with soft lighting, rows of fresh grass planters between the banquettes and Japanese tapestries that add color to the white-tiled walls.
