Harney Sushi Restaurant Review:

A trailblazer, Harney Sushi was one of the first restaurants in San Diego to serve only sustainable seafood. The kitchen is overseen in an ecologically responsible manner, avoiding ingredients that are either over-fished or have a negative impact on the environment. Occasional live music and a late-night social hour (10 p.m. to closing) add to the hip vibe of the space.

Food & Drinks: There are plenty of good eats at hand, like the Spicy Scallop roll with bay scallops, kani kama, cucumber and radish sprouts, or the Mellow Yellow (that is not so mellow) with spicy tuna and shrimp tempura, topped with kampachi, avocado and sauce. Heat lovers will be drawn to the Flaming Lip, a tempura-fried California roll with cream cheese, spicy mayo, jalapeño and sriracha. Desserts are limited to cheesecake and vanilla or green tea ice cream. Diners can explore a nice variety of sakés; try the Hakushika ginjo hot saké if you don’t know where to begin. Soju cocktails, wine and local beers are available. Also located at 301 Mission Ave., Oceanside, 760-967-1820.
