When husband-and-wife David Page and Barbara Shinn opened Home in the mid-nineties, they created a neighborhood restaurant with a year-round back garden, a farmhouse feel and a menu that expressed nostalgia for their Midwestern upbringings. In that spirit, chef Ross Gill’s American menu includes starters such as unctuous maple bacon pork belly and seared scallops in a cider brown butter. A popular entrée is the spice-crusted pork chop with onion rings, bacon braised greens, and ginger applesauce. The chocolate pudding gets our first nod among the desserts and proves that Home is homier than ever.
