Hummingbird Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Located on the waterfront in Old Town and in the rear of Hotel Indigo, though patrons can enter down a garden path, this Cathal Armstrong destination gets quite the buzz. Open for all mealtimes, it attracts a high-end crowd who clamor for Armstrong’s cooking.

Likes: The Key lime bar is a winner.
Dislikes: Black lentil sandwich.

Food & Drinks: Armstrong’s aim with this restaurant is to not only gently follow the seasons but also to take advantage of its coastal location; hence, the menus show off a fair number of seafood-friendly dishes, from crab cake to grilled Arctic char and whole branzino. Breakfasts focus on Irish oatmeal (the chef is Irish) and egg plates. At lunchtime, be sure to start with the grilled octopus and the unusual crab-and-corn fritters. For an entrée, a softshell sandwich is pleasing, or go for the unusual Hummingbird BLT. Vegetarians can turn to salads or a black lentil cake sandwich. Non-seafood eaters may choose from steak and burgers. Desserts are a slender but standout Key lime bar, a cherry pie with vanilla ice cream, and a Mud Pie with Amano chocolate custard, plus others. In keeping with the area’s taste, Armstrong offers a tempting wine and cocktail list, a limited happy hour and a bar menu.
