John Howie Steak Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: John Howie doesn't do anything halfway, and his steakhouse is no exception, as he adds high-end touches and luxe ingredients. The sexy lounge is popular at happy hour, and the spacious dining room hosts power lunches. At night, the space takes on a mellow glow, and private booths ensure an intimate evening.
Food & Drinks: Steaks are USDA Prime: filet mignon, porterhouse, and bone-in rib-eye, to name a few. Can’t decide? Order the combo to compare. Mesquite creates a smoky flavor and light crust to corral the juices. Or check out the bacon cheeseburger, prime rib, juicy chops, and a daily fresh sheet of seafood, such as Parmesan-crusted halibut. For sides, consider the creamed spinach or enormous five-cheese stuffed potato. Bananas Foster and the lighter Meyer lemon pie are dessert options. Since beef is the star, the wine program is heavy on reds (bottles range from $19-$2,100) and there are 60 by-the-glass choices. Service is attentive and gracious.
