THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Laloux Restaurant Review:
Laloux bridges the gap between fine dining and bistro. The restaurant has a neighborhood feel and a notable wine list by the glass and bottle, but the plates coming out of the kitchen are the true attraction. Most ingredients are local, and all are carefully chosen for quality. In winter, start with the asparagus carbonara with lardons, fried shallots, and poached egg cooked sous vide. In spring, savor black cod poached in a sweet guinea hen broth with sea asparagus, Nordic herbs, honey mushrooms, preserved lemon and toasted Quebec sunflower seeds. And you can’t go wrong with anything from the sea, such as torch-seared scallops with whelks, purslane and roasted tomatoes. Flank steak, foie gras and veal cheeks are, fortunately, permanent menu fixtures. And if there’s ever a time and place to not skip the cheese course, it’s here. The selection of mostly raw cheeses is served by the portion and comes with a Dijon-spiked apricot purée and toasted almonds. The adjacent Pop! wine bar also serves meals to accompany the mostly biodynamic list.
